Frequently asked questions about the RTÉ Radio Player

Where will I find the RTÉ Radio Player?

The RTÉ Radio Player is available through RTE.ie/radio. The RTÉ Radio Player app is also available to download for iOS and Android mobile devices.

What do I need to use the RTÉ Radio Player?

You only need a device with an internet connection of at least 128 kbps download speed. If using a computer, you will need a modern web browser. If on a mobile device, you will need to be running Android 5.0 or later, or iOS 11.0 or later.

What does it do?

The RTÉ Radio Player lets you play RTÉ Radio stations on your computer or mobile device. You can tune in live, or listen back to full shows and clips.

Do I need to register?

No, you do not need to register for any activity on the RTÉ Radio Player.

What content can I listen to on the RTÉ Radio Player?

You can listen live to all programmes on RTÉ Radio's FM and Digital stations. You can listen back to most programmes on the four FM services and a selection from four of the digital services: RTÉ 2XM, RTÉ Pulse, RTÉjr Radio and RTÉ Radio 1 Extra.

How soon after broadcast are programmes added to the Player?

The programmes are available approximately 30 minutes after the live broadcast. Depending on content, availability times may vary.

How long are the programmes available for?

They are available for between 7-28 days on the RTÉ Radio Player and indefinitely on the website (subject to rights).

Where are the clips?

To listen to clips in the RTÉ Radio Player, click the 'View Items on this Show' button when listening to the full programme. You will get a list of the clips/items for that programme on that day. To subscribe to podcasts with your own podcast software, you can visit the specific programme website or http://www.rte.ie/podcasts

I do not live in Ireland. Can I listen to programmes on the RTÉ Radio Player?

Most programmes are available abroad, but on some occasions, RTÉ must block certain content that it does not have the right to broadcast outside of Ireland.

I live in Northern Ireland. Can I access programmes on the RTÉ Radio Player?

Most programmes are available in Northern Ireland, but on some occasions RTÉ must block certain content that it does not have the right to broadcast outside of the Republic of Ireland.

Can I download full programmes?

Full programmes are not available for download, but our programme teams work quickly to provide as many items from the shows as possible for download.

What information do you collect about usage on the RTÉ Radio Player?

What if I can't find the programme on the RTÉ Radio Player?

It's possible that the programme is more than a month old. If it is then it will no longer be available on the RTÉ Radio Player. An older index of programmes is available on the programme web page and can be accessed from there.
