On today's Mooney,

Black cats, broken mirrors and brollies indoors – we look how superstitious we really are. “Dear dirty Dublin” – Fergus Sweeney reports live from the number Number 16 bus going through the country’s most notorious litter black spot. And Brenda Donohue catches up with the Tallaght family who had a very special end of year celebration, courtesy of Mooney and Bewley's Hotel in Ballsbridge!

Litter On Irish Roads

Do you think our towns and cities, our country roads, our visitor attractions are clean, tidy, presentable, litter free? Are you confident that visitors to this country can travel the highways and byways and say to themselves “the Irish people take pride in their appearance - Ireland is a nice, clean country”?

Well, this week the group Irish Businesses Against Litter (IBAL) published the Anti Litter League Final Results for 2012, which makes good reading when comparing Ireland to our European counterparts.

But the news is not all good. Traders on Dorset Street have bemoaned the amount of litter on the road, which is one of the main routes from Dublin Airport to the city centre. Mooney producer Fergus Sweeney takes the number 16 Dublin Bus from the Airport into the city centre to tell us what he observes on the journey. And Derek also talks to Tom Kavanagh, Chairman of IBAL, to find out about how clean - or otherwise - Irish roads really are...

Irish vs Non-Irish Products

When you go shopping, and you're walking down the aisles past all the products, you might be surprised to know learn that many of the brands you know and love for being Irish aren't actually Irish at all! So how do you know what's Irish and what's not when hitting the supermarkets?

Well, we all know the Guaranteed Irish logo, which is displayed on many Irish brands and attached to certain Irish services, proving that they are genuinely Irish. But did you know that there's another logo which products may be carrying to prove that they are Irish? It's called 'Love Irish Food'.

So it should be easy to know what's Irish and what's not when pushing that trolley! Well to find out, Colm Flynn went along to do some shopping with Kieran Rumley of 'Love Irish Food'...

The Island Landscape

RTÉ Television, in association with Mooney, is currently producing a major new documentary series on the history of the Irish landscape. The series will tell the story of how our landscape was created after the last major climatic event – the end of the last Ice Age, over ten thousand years ago.  And we want your help! Would you like to contribute video towards the TV series? Click here to find out what we're looking for!
