US Independence Day Being Celebrated In New Ross, Wexford
He was the man who faced down Kruschev during the Cuban missile crisis, and the only American president EVER to have received a purple heart, the highest US military honour. But to the people of Ireland, he was very much one of our own! He was, of course, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. As we all know, JFK died at the tender age of 46 in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. But just five months before this, he arrived in Ireland, to a rapturous reception. No more so than in the small town of New Ross, Co Wexford. Now, 49 years later, the people of New Ross have launched the inaugural Ireland-America Independence Day. And Brenda Donohue was there this morning to sample the atmosphere!
