The New Year is traditionally a time of change and good intentions, and there's often a lot of discussion about women's health issues, but what about men? Derek chats to Dr. Liam Lynch, a Clondalkin GP and former President of the Irish Medical Organisation, to tell us what men can do to feel healthier in 2008.

ASHTOWN DOG POUND
This is a busy time of year, and not just for the staff on the January sales! It's also the busiest time of the year for people dealing with abandoned dogs. Ashtown Pound in Dublin takes in stray dogs from around the city. Sadly, if they are not collected within 5 days, they are put down. Marie Hannon thought there had to be a better way, so she set up Dogs in Distress to foster unwanted dogs at Ashtown, and find new homes for them. One unusual feature of Dogs in Distress is that they have set up a fostering service, whereby volunteers foster dogs for a week or so before they are re-homed. So our Terry Flanagan went out to Ashtown on New Year's Eve and met Donal Moroney, who's the manager there... For more information about Dogs In Distress, visit www.dogsindistress.org
It's New Year, and time for a clear out of all kinds of everything. One way you can do this and cut down on waste bills is by composting. But if you're a novice to this area, what do you need to know? Well in our Limerick studio we have Kevin Dudley, Orchard Curator with the Irish Seed Savers' Association, to give us the A to Z of composting...
