VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH

Vlad kicks off Black History Month in October with the first of his several distinguished guests. Baroque trumpet specialist Justin Bland makes Copenhagen his home these days, but the versatile performer and teacher is regularly to be found on concert stages throughout Europe and North & South America. His career includes taking on the exceedingly difficult high-register repertoire for Baroque trumpet and this morning, Vlad speaks with Justin about what brought him to early music, and in particular, to the fiendishly difficult natural trumpet. Tune in for recordings featuring Justin Bland and other contemporary early music artists, along with Vlad's usual mix of over a thousand years' worth of historically informed delights.

THE FULL SCORE WITH LIZ NOLAN

To mark Black History Month, a repeat of a concert from earlier this year at the orchestra Hall, Minnesota. Music of mourning, compassion and hope in memory of George Floyd and all victims of racial violence and hate in today's Full Score concert with the Minnesota Orchestra. Led by Osmo Vänskä, featuring violinist Karen Gomyo, the programme will include Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, which the composer dedicated to the victims of fascism and war; Chevalier de Saint-Georges' Concerto in D major for Violin and Orchestra; Carlos Simon's 'An Elegy: A Cry from the Grave'; and Mahler's Adagietto from Symphony No. 5. Liz Nolan presents a showcase of unabridged musical masterworks, featuring live recordings of Irish and international performers, plus selections from the latest CD releases.
