The Hudson River is an acclaimed poetry sequence by Derek Mahon, first published in 1995.

In this documentary, excerpts are read by Stephen Rea, With Dawn Bradfield, Susan Zelouf And Sabra Loomis.

To sound track the documentary, plangent sounds on the Hudson river in New York were specially recorded by producer Lorelei Haris.

The story - and sounds - move downriver to Manhattan, as Mahon's poems address questions of homelessness and exile in the broadest sense.
