Essential Classics: Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and more
High in snow-capped mountains a beautiful girl played Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. The forests awoke as Enigma Variations enveloped the valleys. And the people wept. Stunning 24-year-old Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing is on a journey to stardom. Rapidly making waves with her delicate virtuosity, tonight she performs the concerto that has been described as the 'heart's jewel'. Another favourite on this programme is Elgar's Enigma Variations, the most famous of which, Nimrod, is often heard at memorial services and ceremonies. All of this brought to life by Maestro John Wilson. More info.
