A Status Yellow rainfall warning remains in place for Munster and Leinster.

Met Éireann said the alert is valid until 6am tomorrow.

Intense and potentially thundery downpours are forecast, which may lead to localised flooding.

Forecasters said that given recent heavy rainfall this will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also.

A Yellow thunder warning was in place for Munster, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow but was lifted tonight.

Earlier, thunder and lightning storms caused flooding at the Kinsale Road roundabout in Cork city.

The roads to and from the busy junction remain open but drivers are being asked to exercise caution.

AA Roadwatch reported excess surface water on the N11/M11 between Wexford town and Gorey.
