A fresh appeal for information has been issued in relation to the murder of a 27-year-old man in Donegal 13 years ago.

Gardaí say a number of individuals were involved in the murder of Andrew Burns on 12 February 2008 at Donnyloop in Castlefin.

Mr Burns was found on a roadway close to Donnyloop Church with a number of gunshot wounds shortly after 7pm that evening and was pronounced dead a short time later.

In 2012, Martin Kelly from Strabane in Co Tyrone, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder

In a statement today, Detective Inspector Pat O'Donnell said gardaí are appealing directly "to those individuals who were on the periphery of the group involved in Andrew’s murder".

He said that in the 13 years since the murder, "relationships change, loyalties change and people may not now be constrained by the set of circumstances that existed for them" then.

"An Garda Síochána is appealing to those individuals to look into their conscience and unburden themselves of whatever information they may have," he said.
