A man in his 60s who died in a road accident in Co Derry has been named as Hugh McWilliams, a prominent businessman, whose firm sponsors GAA club St Colm's in Ballinascreen and Derry's county GAA teams.

Mr McWilliams was driving a car which crashed on the Five Mile Straight in Draperstown yesterday.

PSNI said it was the only vehicle involved.

Derry GAA has described Mr McWilliams as a "giant of generosity", who was "unstinting in his support for county, club and community.

"The GAA was a way of life for Hugh and his untimely death will be a shock across the county."

The road where the incident happened was closed but has since been reopened.

An investigation is under way and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
