Over 40 firefighters including some from Northern Ireland brought a blaze at a waste handling facility in east Donegal under control at 11pm last night.
When Donegal Fire Service responded to the fire at Roosky Upper, Convoy, just after 3pm yesterday the fire was already well established at JML Recycling, which processes mainly waste paper, plastics and timber.
Donegal County Council says that given the severity of the incident brigades from Stranorlar, Letterkenny, Buncrana, Donegal Town and Glenties were mobilised and a support unit from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service was also in attendance.
At its peak there were over 40 firefighters engaged in firefighting operations with seven pumping appliances and a water tanker.
The firefighters managed to save the main warehouse building and a private dwelling house on the site. Most of the damage was contained to the outdoor storage area but nobody was injured.
A reduced crew remained on-site overnight to monitor the situation and continue to dampen down the remaining smouldering waste materials and the operation was stood down just after 6am this morning.
