At 11.30pm on Christmas Eve in 1936 President Éamon de Valera broadcast a message to the people of America.

A recording of the message was broadcast again on Christmas day.

In his message, which can be heard on the RTÉ Archives website, the president spoke about the bonds of kinship between Ireland and America, and the European war menace.
