A one-day conference on the future of television and its impact over the past 50 years has been hosted by University College Cork in partnership with RTÉ.

The conference on Saturday 8 September brought together influential figures from Irish broadcast, print and online media, as well as independent commentators.

It was opened by Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte.

Keynote speakers included John Bowman, broadcaster, writer and author, and RTÉ’s Director General Noel Curran.

Three panel discussions, chaired by broadcasters Áine Lawlor, Doireann Ní Briain and Brenda Power, saw lively debates between senior executives and journalists from RTÉ, TV3, TG4, The Irish Times and TechCentral.ie, as well as history and media academics, members of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and the RTÉ Audience Council.
