About the Piece

Meet Alexei Kondratiev. Raised in Burgundy, France, he grew up near the site of ancient Celtic remains, and was inspired to learn everything he could about Celtic cultures.

In his teens, he taught himself how to speak Irish from books he found in libraries. During his college years, he spent the better part of four years living on the Aran Islands.

Kondratiev is a much-loved character at the Irish Arts Center in New York city, where he has been teaching Irish language, Celtic mythology and Celtic Christianity courses for over 20 years.

About the Director

Mary Catherine Brouder is a freelance documentary producer and print journalist.

She has worked on documentaries for clients including CBS, PBS, MyLifetime.com, and the Independent Film Channel(IFC) in NYC.

She studied Irish literature at Harvard and broadcast journalism at Columbia School of Journalism, where she was also an Adjunct Professor for a course called Covering the Religions of Ireland.

Mary Catherine recently relocated to Dublin from New York, which, she says, has thankfully given her the opportunity to enjoy quality time with her dad, a Limerick native who now lives in Westmeath.
