A number of animals are receiving care at an animal sanctuary following a garda operation yesterday.
Footage of a donkey being dragged by its head through a rope attached to a car circulated online yesterday.
The matter was investigated by gardaí under the Animal Welfare Act.
The donkey was examined and recovered for its safety, according to gardaí.
In total, seven animals were seized as part of an operation in Co Offaly.
Gardaí thanked Hungry Horse Outside and The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland centres for their assistance in recovering the animals
"We assure the public that they will be well cared for and kept safe," gardaí said.
