A man has died in a house fire in east Belfast.

The emergency services were called to Edenvale Crescent in the east of the city just after 8pm.

Two fire appliances from Knock Fire Station, one from Central Station and the Fire Emergency Support Service attended the incident.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two jets to extinguish the fire, however the man was found dead at the property.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said: "The thoughts and sympathies of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are with the family and friends of a man who died following a fire in the Edenvale Crescent area of East Belfast."

An investigation is now under way to establish the cause of the fire.
