Gardaí have confirmed that two bodies were recovered from rivers in Co Clare early on Saturday following separate incidents.

One of the bodies is reported to be that of a man missing in Ennis since 10 November.

His body was located and recovered from the River Fergus around 1pm.

Civil Defence volunteers have searched the river every day since the alarm was first raised.

The second body is that of another man who is believed to have fallen into the river in Newmarket on Fergus overnight.

His body was recovered shortly after 2pm yesterday.

The bodies of the two men were removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where post-mortems will be carried out.
