A 13-year-old girl has died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a freak traffic accident in April.

Aisling Kennedy from Ballymacarbry in Co Waterford had just got off a school bus near her home when she was struck by the wing-mirror of a passing van on 7 April last.

She sustained severe injuries as a result and was initially treated at University Hospital Waterford before being transferred to Temple Street in Dublin where she was placed in an induced coma.

However, she died this week in hospital.

She was a student at Presentation Secondary School in Clonmel, where staff have described her as a "very popular and vibrant" member of the school community.
