A man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident on Christmas Day in which a middle aged woman was seriously injured.
The man was arrested this morning.
He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act by gardaí at Mallow Garda Station.
The 51-year-old woman was stabbed several times near her home 8km from the village of Banteer in north county Cork on Christmas Day.

It is understood she was out walking her dog when she was attacked by a man.
Emergency services were alerted just after 4.30pm that the woman had suffered several stab wounds.
Gardaí from Cork North, Cork City and the Cork West divisions rushed to the scene, along with a number of Garda Armed Support units and a specialist army search team based at Collins Barracks in Cork.
A man, who had also sustained serious stab wounds, was found nearby a short time later by gardaí.
