The post office in Blarney, Co Cork is closed due to the impact of Covid-19 on staffing, An Post has confirmed.

It is one of ten across the country that remains closed and An Post described the situation as "rapidly evolving".

An Post has a total of 920 post offices nationwide.

In a statement, a spokesperson said that social welfare payments may be collected at Blackpool Post Office with immediate effect.

The post office is expected to reopen on Monday 10 January and no other Cork offices have been impacted.

Some postal deliveries are being impacted in some areas due to people being designated as close household contacts.

However, the statement went on to say that "An Post staff are doing everything possible to ensure regular deliveries and collections to all routes, while ensuring the safety of staff in what is a rapidly evolving situation".
