A man arrested as part of the investigation into injuries sustained by a woman who was hit by a firework in Galway city has been released without charge.

A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The man in his 20s had been arrested yesterday in Dublin.

The student suffered serious injuries as a result of the incident in Eyre Square on 22 October.

The woman was sitting at a bus stop near a taxi rank when the incident occurred at around midnight.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses.
