Three people were taken to hospital after being rescued from the River Liffey in Dublin city centre.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident on Wellington Quay at around 4.45pm.

One man was in the river and two other people entered the water to assist him.

A fire service rescue boat rescued one man from the water.

Gardaí and members of Dublin Fire Brigade assisted the other two people to safety from the quay side.

One man was taken to the Mater Hospital and the other two people were taken to St James Hospital.

None of those involved sustained life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
