Visiting restrictions are in place on two wards of Roscommon University Hospital due to an outbreak of Covid-19.

No visitors will be allowed on St Teresa's ward and on St Coman's ward for the time being, the Saolta University Health Care Group has said.

It advised that exceptions may be made on compassionate grounds and these visits should be arranged in advance with the nurse manager on the ward.

Visiting restrictions are to be reviewed next week.

The hospital said it is following the national public health guidance in relation to the management of suspect cases, confirmed cases and close contacts.

Covid-19 testing and contact tracing of both staff and patients is being carried out.

St Bridget's ward at Roscommon University Hospital is accepting visitors by appointment only.

People who have outpatient or other appointments at the hospital are advised to attend their appointment unless contacted by a member of staff from the hospital and told otherwise.

In a statement issued by Saolta, people are requested to arrive at their appointments no earlier than ten minutes before the allotted time, and alone, unless the support of another person is essential.

People with Covid-19 symptoms, awaiting a Covid-19 test or test result or who have had a positive test within the last 14 days are advised to call the number on their appointment letter to rearrange their appointment.
