A man has appeared in court in relation to the seizure of almost €1.2 million worth of cannabis in Kilkenny last Thursday.

Slavimir Bubuscak, 43, with an address at Redwood Castle Gardens, Kilkenny city, has been charged with two offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

This follows a joint operation involving Revenue customs officials and members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Unit on Thursday, which resulted in the seizure of cannabis herb weighing 59kg and with an estimated street value of €1.18 million.

Two men were arrested at the time and one, aged in his 20s, was released without charge, with a file to be prepared for the DPP.

Slavimilr Bubuscak was charged by Detective Garda Mark Berigan early this morning and brought before a special sitting of Gorey district court this evening.

There was no objection to bail, on the defendant's own bond of €10,000 and an independent cash surety of €5,000.

The accused was told to reside at the address given and to notify gardaí of any changes, not to apply for travel documentation and to sign on at Kilkenny Garda Station every day.

Judge Kevin Staunton remanded the accused on bail, with those conditions, to appear at Kilkenny district court on 16 November for DPP directions.

Legal aid was granted.
