Legislation has been passed by the US House of Representatives that expresses the importance of efforts to promote peace in Northern Ireland by way of the International Fund for Ireland.
The fund is an independent organisation that supports economic regeneration and social development projects in areas most affected by decades of violence in Northern Ireland.
The legislation was included as an amendment to the Foreign Operations Appropriations Act and was proposed by Democratic Congressman Brendan Boyle.
"We are now seeing a slow creep of Brexit related consequences for the island of Ireland," Congressman Boyle said.
"I am pleased that my amendment has passed on the House floor at this critical juncture," he added.
Congressman Boyle said he was encouraged that his fellow members of Congress supported his amendment, showing their support for peace throughout the island of Ireland.
