Farmers in Co Galway are being urged to remain vigilant, following a series of thefts in the east of the county in recent weeks.

The IFA says that a number of its members have had trailers, power tools and garden machinery stolen.

In some instances, it is believed that drones were used to survey lands prior to the burglaries occurring.

IFA Regional Officer Roy O'Brien said the robberies coincided with a busy time of the year for farmers.

He has urged them not to be complacent and to take steps to secure their property.

Mr O’Brien said security arrangements on farms should be regularly assessed, to guard against the risk of theft.

He also expressed concern that many farmers may lack insurance cover, in the event of goods being stolen, and has advised that they address any shortcomings in that regard.
