The University of Limerick hospital group has said that vaccination centres at both Ennis and Nenagh will open tomorrow on a phased basis, five days ahead of the planned date.

The centres will be located at the West County Hotel in Ennis, Co Clare, and the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, and will scale up in line with the availability of vaccines.

A vaccination centre was opened at the Radisson Blu Hotel just outside Limerick last Thursday where 500 people a day had appointments, and all three facilities form a tripartite vaccination network to accelerate the delivery of Covid-19 vaccine in the Mid-West Region.

Colette Cowan, CEO UL Hospital Group and Chair of the Mid-West Integrated Covid-19 Vaccination steering group, said over 130,000 people in the 65-69-year-old cohort around the country have already registered for their vaccination and appointments are being offered at the most convenient location based on their registration information.

The portal and phone line registration facility remains open for those aged 65 and over and she said they expect to start allocating appointment slots in the Mid-West vaccination centres to the young age groups as the national plan progresses.
