A man has been charged in connection with a hijacking incident in Limerick last Sunday.

It happened in the O'Malley Park area of the city at around 5pm.

A man who was sitting in his car agreed to give another man a lift, but was later threatened with what is believed to have been a knife.

The passenger demanded to be driven to Portlaoise.

The driver of the car jumped from the vehicle close to a petrol station in Portlaoise and received minor injuries.

Gardaí later arrested a man in his late 20s in Tallaght in Dublin.

He was due to appear before Kilmallock District Court this evening.
