Two people have been arrested following the seizure of €59,000 in cash in Co Cork, while a third person has been arrested in relation to the seizure of €40,000 worth of cannabis during a follow up search in Athlone.

A car was stopped and searched in Glanmire , Co Cork, on Tuesday, when €59,000 in cash was recovered.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s and the passenger, a girl in her teens, were arrested and questioned at Mayfield Garda Station.

Both were later released. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A follow up search in relation to the incident took place at a house in Athlone, Co Westmeath yesterday, resulting in the seizure of 2kg of cannabis with a street value €40,000, mobile phones, weighing scales, a GPS tracker and €910 in cash.

A man, aged in his late teens, was arrested and is being questioned at Athlone Garda Station.
