A Galway based company is to manufacture components for a new European Space Agency satellite.
ÉireComposites says the light baffles will be the first external equipment to be made in Ireland and launched into space.
The components will prevent stray light from reaching the lenses of the satellite's optical instruments, by using periscope mirrors.
ÉireComposites will manufacture three baffles at its plant in Indreabhán.
The satellite is expected to be launched by end of 2023.
It will be deployed as part of the ALTIUS mission, to monitor ozone and other atmospheric gasses.
