Drugs and cash worth more than €40,000 have been seized by gardaí in Limerick city.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in relation to the incident.

Gardaí said they stopped a taxi on Lower Gerald Griffin Street shortly after 4pm.

The passenger was searched and found to have €10,000 of suspected cannabis herb and about €10,000 in cash.

The man was arrested and brought to Henry Street Garda Station.

Later, a follow-up search was carried out in the Annacotty area of the city.

Gardaí said about €20,000 in cash and a further €1,000 worth of suspected cannabis was seized in that search.
