Around 60 people have protested outside RTÉ in Donnybrook, Dublin against a sketch shown on RTÉ One TV on New Year's Eve.

Some of the protesters recited Christian prayers, including the Rosary and the Our Father, and several carried religious banners.

RTÉ has apologised for the sketch about God included in the the New Year's Eve Countdown Show saying that while it was intended as satire, it did not comply with RTÉ's own standards and broader regulations.

After consideration of the RTÉ Editorial Standards Board's findings, RTÉ decided it will make a voluntary disclosure of non-compliance to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and engage with the authority in this process.

RTÉ has removed this sketch from the RTÉ Player.
