Four gardaí were bitten and threatened when they tried to arrest a man during a public order disturbance in Waterford city this morning.
The gardaí, three men and one woman, went to University Hospital Waterford for treatment but have since been discharged.
It happened at about 6.30am at Bridge Street near the city centre, after gardaí received a call about an incident.
Officers went to the scene and tried to arrest a male but four were kicked, bitten on the arms and had threats made to their lives.
Gardaí in Waterford say a man was arrested in the area.
They have appealed for witnesses, and want to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity before the gardaí arrived, while they were there, and afterwards.
