Mark Coughlan has been a reporter for Prime Time since November 2012. Prior to that he was a freelance journalist and ran, a blog focused on data journalism, information transparency, and Irish current affairs. He was freelance researcher for Prime Time and 'Prime Time Investigates' for two years prior to joining the team full-time. Before that he attended Ballyfermot College of Further Education where he studied print journalism and edited the college newspaper.

He covers a wide range of topics for the programme but has a particular interest in corporate governance issues when it comes to spending or allocating public money. He particularly enjoys deep document-based investigations coupled with engaging storytelling. Recent investigations have directly resulted in audits being launched by Government departments, causing changes in departmental policies around allocating funding to outside bodies.
