Robert Shortt joined RTÉ in 1998 and worked across radio and television news. He was appointed Business Correspondent in 2001. During that time, he set up and co-presented The Business programme on RTÉ Radio 1. From 2005-2008 he was based in the United States as RTÉ's Washington Correspondent. He covered stories such as Hurricane Katrina and the presidential race of 2008 which saw the election of Barack Obama. Since returning to Dublin, he has worked in Prime Time, winning a Smurfit Business Journalist Award for 'The Bailout' -a documentary on Ireland's economic collapse. Prior to joining RTÉ, Robert worked for the BBC and the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
