The Ceann Comhairle is set to make a decision by next Tuesday on whether or not Independent TD Marc MacSharry will be suspended from the Dáil for two days.
The committee which oversees the rules of the Dáil met today and heard a complaint about comments the former Fianna Fáil TD made to the Leas Cheann Comhairle Catherine Connolly last month.
Mr MacSharry had accused the Leas Cheann Comhairle of not giving him adequate speaking time.
However, the matter has since been reviewed and the Sligo-Leitrim TD could be suspended from the Dáil next Wednesday and Thursday.
Some of those who attended today's meeting said it was "probably too late" for Mr MacSharry to avoid the suspension.
