Sinn Féin TD Thomas Gould has written to the Public Accounts Committee requesting that it investigate the continuing closure of the Southdoc out-of-hours medical service in Blackpool, Cork and Listowel, Co Kerry.
In his letter to the Committee Mr Gould cites information he secured under Freedom of Information which shows that the Health Service Executive has written to Southdoc requesting that it reopen the two facilities late last year.
The HSE wrote to South Doc last October to say that the continuing closure posed a "serious risk to unnecessary presentations" to hospitals in Cork.
The HSE also called for the two facilities to be reopened with immediate effect.
It said the information on which Southdoc was basing "the decision to keep these centres closed is unreliable" and also that "there should be no further consolidation of treatment centres without prior discussion and agreement with the HSE."
In response Southdoc said that there were not enough doctors available to run the centre in Listowel.
It said Blackpool would remain closed because Southdoc's board believed that it was safer to streamline the services and in Cork city.
