All Fine Gael ministers are to be assigned to by-election constituencies in which they will have to canvass ahead of the vote in November.

The decision to step up preparations for the by-elections will be seen as the Government sending a signal that it is not planning a general election next month.

It comes after a meeting this morning overseen by Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, who is also the party's Director of Organisation.

The canvass list is going to be checked by the Taoiseach at regular meetings that will be held in the weeks leading into the by-elections.

The first canvass is expected to take place in Dublin Mid West tomorrow.

Four by-elections are set to take place late in November in Cork North-Central, Dublin Fingal, Dublin Mid-West and Wexford.
