This week politicians debated a change to legislation which could see bookies banned from taking bets on National Lottery results.

The practice is prohibited in other countries in an effort to ensure sales from lottery betting is channeled to good causes. 

The National Lottery in Ireland is estimated to be losing out on €400m of revenue from the practice of bookmakers taking bets on the Lottery in Ireland.
