It has been a big week in Strasbourg following the first meeting of the European Parliament after the elections.
As MEPs took their seats for the first time, the top jobs were being filled in Brussels at meetings held behind closed door.
This week on the Your Politics podcast, Aine Lawlor hears from Mary Regan who has been reporting from Strasbourg.
Also in Europe, the Mercosur trade deal was announced.
It has been criticised by farm groups in Ireland for opening the door for cheap South American beef imports.
But there is more to the deal than beef, as political coverage editor David Murphy and reporter Aisling Kenny explain.
As the Dáil enters its final week, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar compared Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin to a sinning priest.
He later said he "offended people who I never intended to offend. I want to apologise for that and withdraw it."
