The Government has steamrolled ahead with the National Broadband Plan despite a blunt warning from one of the country’s top civil servants that it is overpriced and risky.

The searing assessment of the plan by Robert Watt, the head of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, left the Minister for Finance grasping for explanations.

This week the Your Politics podcast analyses whether the Government’s decision stands up to scrutiny. It is available for download here on iTunes, Stitcher and Soundcloud.

Presenter Paul Cunningham is joined by Aisling Kenny, David Murphy and Mícheál Lehane of the RTÉ’s politics team.

They also discuss why the candidates in the European elections are struggling to get voters interested in the contest.

And they analyse the debate on the divorce referendum.
