Security footage has captured the moment a Tesla slammed into a convention centre in the US state of Ohio, with the driver telling police he had been unable to brake.

Nobody was seriously injured as the vehicle smashed into the convention centre in Columbus, Ohio last Wednesday.

The crash caused an estimated $250,000 to $300,000 in damages.

The white Tesla Model 3 ran a red light driving at around 112km/h and crashed into the glass wall on the site of the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The driver told the police that he had been unable to brake.

It is unclear whether the autopilot feature was engaged at the time of the crash.
