Beachgoers in Florida were stunned to see a World War II-era plane making an emergency landing within a stone's throw from shore on Saturday.

The plane, a TBM Avenger, had been participating in an air show at the Patrick Space Force Base, when it suffered from engine failure.

After a failed attempt to land at the airbase, the pilot and lone occupant of the aircraft, guided the plane towards Cocoa Beach.

He successfully landed in the water, as beachgoers watched on in amazement. He was unhurt in the incident, according to local reports.

Air authorities were said to be investigating the cause of the engine failure.

The TBM Avenger had been flying as part of the Air Force’s Thunderbirds, which headlined the air show.
