The trailer left burning debris on the highway and was causing sparks and flames to be sprayed all over the highway at around 3am local time.
Queensland police said the trailer did not have any wheels as it was being dragged along the Bruce highway.
Police also received information that the driver had travelled about 20km along the highway, setting off multiple fires along the bushland next to the route.
Officers said the 49-year-old male driver is helping with their investigations into the matter.
