Gardaí investigating a serious assault in Limerick earlier this week have renewed their appeal for information.

A woman in her 40s was assaulted a number of times in the Parnell Street and Parnell Place of the city, which is located across the road from the city's railway station, sometime between 11.15pm on Sunday and 1.45am on Monday.

She was taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for her injuries.

A man in his 40s was arrested and charged in connection with the investigation into the incident.

It was the night of the All-Ireland Hurling Final and there were a lot of people out and about in the city centre until late.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, in particular anyone in or around Colbert Station and the Parnell Street, Davis street, and Hyde road areas between 11pm and 2am last Sunday night and Monday morning - and who may have video footage - to contact Roxboro Road Garda station on 061 214 340, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
