A 24-year-old man who was arrested in connection with an assault incident at an apartment in Limerick city last Sunday has been remanded in custody after being refused bail at the District Court.
Dominik Bieber with an address at Ormston House, Ellen Street, Limerick is charged with assault causing harm, producing a knife in the course of a dispute and a charge of burglary at Ellen Street on 11 April last.
Gardaí said they anticipated further charges in the case and objected to bail given the seriousness of the charges and the possibility of interference with the injured party in the case who is known to the accused man.
The court heard Mr Bieber is a Polish national and had been living here for over a year and that gardaí feared he could be a flight risk.
Having assessed evidence of Garda concerns Judge John Brennan refused bail and remanded Mr Bieber in custody to Limerick Prison.
He is to appear by video link in court again in a week's time.
