A man in his late twenties has been hospitalised in Cork after he was stabbed in the head during an argument between friends in the city centre this afternoon.

The stabbing happened outside the Savoy Shopping Centre on Patrick Street at around 3.30pm this afternoon.

The man was taken to hospital where his injury is said not to be life-threatening.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident.

No arrests have been made but gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.
