A man in his 70s has died in a collision with a van in the car park of a football club on the outskirts of Cork city.

Gardaí say the incident happened at around 3.30pm on the grounds of College Corinthians football club in Douglas.

The man was fatally injured in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area is being examined by garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are also appealing to people who witnessed the collision to contact them at Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-452000.

College Corinthians has been in existence for around 50 years and has four adult teams, along with underage boys and girls teams.

It is one of the most successful clubs in the country, with a number of its former members moving on to have professional football careers in Ireland and in the UK.
