A man is being treated in hospital after his microlight aircraft crashed into a 10,000-volt power line in Co Kerry.

The incident happened just after 1pm this afternoon.

It is understood the man, who is believed to be aged in his 50s and from Co Cork, was flying alone at the time.

He has been taken to University Hospital Kerry for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Gardaí attended the scene and an investigation is under way.

The Department of Transport's Air Accident Investigation Unit will conduct a separate investigation.

Power supply to the area was disrupted as ESB technicians worked to repair the fault.
