The winner of last Saturday's Lotto draw of €9.7 million has made contact with the National Lottery but will be unable to collect the jackpot until after the Government has lifted Covid-19 restrictions on movement.

The holder of the winning ticket made contact by phone with officials of the National Lottery earlier today.

Lottery officials were able to validate the win from details on the ticket.

No details of the winner have been revealed.

RTÉ News understands that the jackpot, the biggest ever won in Kerry, has been claimed by a local person.

The winning quick pick ticket was sold at Daly's Supervalu in Killarney, Co Kerry, on the day of the draw.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we have been contacted this afternoon by the lucky ticketholder and arrangements are currently being made for the claim to be made once restrictions are lifted due to the on-going public health emergency."
